π How to Sell a Gift and Exchange It for Stars
"How to sell a gift in Telegram" and "exchange it for stars" are very common searches, but regular and collectible gifts follow different rules. Let's break down what can be sold and how, so you don't lose money.
Regular gift β exchange for stars only
A regular (non-upgraded) gift can't be listed for sale β it can only be converted back into stars, and only within 7 days of receipt. The stars return to your balance, but usually less than the gift's original price. After 7 days the gift stays in your collection, but you can no longer exchange it.
If you want to reclaim stars for an unwanted regular gift β do it right away. After 7 days the exchange option disappears. Upgraded (collectible) gifts aren't bound by this window β they can be sold at any time.
Collectible gift β selling on the marketplace
An upgraded (collectible) gift can be sold for stars right in Telegram's built-in marketplace: open the gift in your profile β "Sell" β set a price in stars. The gift appears on the storefront marked "For sale", and once someone buys it, the stars land on your balance.

The Telegram marketplace is simpler (everything inside the messenger, paid in stars); third-party platforms have a lower commission but require a TON wallet.
For a quick sale inside Telegram, the built-in marketplace is more convenient, even at 20% commission. If maximum proceeds matter and you work with a TON wallet β third-party markets take about 2.5%. Regular gifts don't reach the marketplace β they need to be upgraded first (see the section below).

The main feature of limited edition gifts is that they can be turned into NFTs and sold for real money (TON). Some gifts have grown in value by 10β100x!

First an Upgrade, then the NFT
A regular limited gift can't be turned into an NFT straight away β it needs to be upgraded first. When you upgrade, you spend from 25 Stars, and the gift gets a random unique look: a background, a pattern, and an animation. That's how a collectible instance with a rarity is born β and only after upgrading can it be withdrawn as an NFT on TON or listed on the marketplace. Combining several gifts to get a rarer one is what Telegram calls "Crafting".
How to Convert a Gift to NFT
Open the Gift
Go to your gifts and select a limited edition gift.
Tap "Convert"
Choose the "Convert to NFT" or "Withdraw to TON" option.
Connect a TON Wallet
Connect Tonkeeper, TON Space, or another TON wallet to receive the NFT.
Receive the NFT
The NFT will appear in your wallet. Now you can sell it on Fragment or Getgems.
